ONTARIO LAWS:

Drinking and Driving: all motorized vehicles (Truck, car, boat or ATV)

No open alcohol in any vehicle, other than your residence (Camp Michi-Wawa is  considered your temporary residence)    

Seatbelts: are mandatory at all times.  ( Bush roads don’t count)

All Terrain Vehicles: ownership, insurance and helmets are mandatory at all times.

Fishing: see page 2 for some fishing laws and regulations.

Fishing Licenses 2005:

Annual Fishing License       $64.00 Cdn. (Approx.. $ 59.00 US)

Annual Conservation           $39.00 Cdn. (Approx.  $ 36.00 US)

8 Day Fishing                       $41.00 Cdn  (Approx.  $ 38.00 US)

8 Day Conservation             $24.00 Cdn  (Approx.  $22.00 US)

 

Shore Lunch: Fish caught that day and eaten are counted as part of your daily catch.

Fishing pole: 1 Pole per license. 2 tip ups when ice fishing.

Fish Cleaning: 1 fish per clear plastic bag for easy identification, and leave the entire skin on,. (We’ll show you how).

Also for fish species identification.

Drinking and  Boating: If you Drink Don’t Boat.. The laws and penalties for drinking and boating are the same as those for drinking and driving on the highway.

Minnows: No trapping allowed for Non-Residents

DO NOT release minnows by throwing them in the water. Through them out on shore for the birds and animals to eat or bring them back to camp for bear bait. Stop the Invasion: see pg. 34 of your fishing regulations.

Boating Mandatory Accessories:

Motor Boat up to 6 ½ yards in length (19 ½ ft.) (6 meters) and also canoes requires the following

one life jacket of appropriate size for each person on board.

one bailer or one manual water pump with sufficient hose

sound signaling device or appliance. (Fox 40 whistle minimum)

Navigation lights  (if operating at night or in poor visibility)

one buoyant heaving line 15 meters (50 ft.)

watertight flashlight or three approved flares of type A, B or C

fire extinguisher for inboard gas tanks.

one manual propelling device (oars or paddles)

Hunting Licenses

Small Game        $ 90.00 Cdn. (Approx. $  82.00 US)

Moose                 $360.00 Cdn. (Approx. $330.00 US)

Black Bear         $180.00 Cdn.  (Approx. $165.00 US)

Previous Hunting License from your State required in order to obtain a Hunting License in Ontario.

Firearms and Hunting: You must only hunt from a half hour before sunrise to a half hour after sunset. You must unload and encase firearms at these times. CHECK LOCAL SUNRISE SUNSET TIMES: Ask Ken or Lu

Unloaded while driving an ATV or in your Vehicle.

Firearms must be registered at the border (pg.10 of the Hunting regulations)

Minimum age to hunt in Ontario is 16 years of age.

Bad Land Tour: Restricted Fire Zone: great blueberry picking.

Pot Holes Provincial Park: great hot day excursion

Diamond Rocks: check out our beach for diamonds and gold

Tremblay Road to Beach:  Short cut to Sandy Beach

High Falls: Different every time you see it.

Canoe Tours: amateur canoeing 1 day (5-8 hrs.)

Magpie River

Michipicoten River

Area Lakes: We have maps, depends on species and type of water craft and vehicle you own.

North Access to the Magpie River: more maps, see Ken

Brook Trout Creeks and Ponds: see Ken

Moose: May till Mid June, evenings the best, but anytime is possible

Eagles on Michipicoten River: Seen in September when the salmon are spawning up river.

Artisan Tours: By Appointment. Crafts hand made by Natives and Locals.

Northern Lights: (Auroras Borealis) spring and fall are the best times to view this phenomena in the Northern sky. Look directly out you cabin door late in the evening, especially after a dramatic temperature change from hot to cold.

Fort Friendship: You’ve got to see this!!

Driftwood Beach: After Fort Friendship, you really have to see this!

Sandy Beach: Great on a hot day, especially for the kids.

Harbor: Scenic. This is where the ships used to sail from with iron ore. Just 10 min. past Sandy Beach.

Anderson’s Fisheries: You didn’t Catch fish?? Bring home Salmon, Rainbow Trout, Lake Trout, Whitefish (smoked or fresh).

Mr. Valley Park: Go see what 1 retired man can do.
